Camera Critters #25
Say hello to Einstein. Einstein or "Einey" as he's called, is Wilbur the Basset Hound's new little brother. Wilbur was lonely after his companion Dolly passed away a few weeks ago so Wilbur's mom and dad decided to adopt a buddy for Wilbur.
Wilbur's mom found Einey on Pet Finders. His photo caught her attention almost immediately and I think it was love at first sight. Einey was adopted from the Little Bow Wow Rescue in Orange, CA. (Can you guess why the rescue named him Einstein?)
Wilbur's mom and dad stopped at our house on their way home with Einey so we could meet him for the first time. I was a bit concerned when all of the large neighborhood dogs trotted over to say hello. But Einey is a spunky little guy and he wasn't intimidated at all! Here's Einey saying hello to Chelsea.
Einey likes to lie down with his hind legs splayed out behind him. He's a super active pup and he loves to run circles around the couch with Wilbur.
Wilbur says, "I love my new little brother but I wish he had an OFF switch... I need a nap!"

Camera Critters #24
On this week's episode of
In the following photo we observe the insidious Zanies snake trying to coil itself around Trooper's neck.

Next the snake tries to cover Trooper's eyes in an attempt to temporarily blind him...
But Trooper valiantly fights back... Aaarrrrrh!
Meanwhile in another part of the jungle, two large insects are attacking the kitty cat. As you can see... the kitty is terrified.

Camera Critters #23

When hubby went on a fishing trip a few weeks ago, I decided it was a good time to clear out some of the clutter around the house. I tackled the dresser drawers first and the kitty was more than willing to lend me a paw. Here she is lying on top of my son's middle school gym shirt. My son graduated from college last year... (did I mention it's been awhile since I cleaned out the dresser drawers? ahem...)

After clearing out the drawers I took a little break and came back to find this....
Okay fine... I guess I can bag up the clothes that I want to donate to Goodwill... or not...
Well... I can put fresh sheets on the bed! Or not...
SIGH, I give up... I'm going to pour myself a cup of coffee and relax in the easy chair for a few minutes. OR NOT!!! Aaargh!

Camera Critters #22

The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA has a wonderful exhibit called the Lorikeet Forest. I could have spent the entire day looking at these beautiful birds! This is an excerpt from the Aquarium guidebook... Measuring approximately 10 inches in length, lorikeets exhibit a dazzling color combination, ranging from brilliant blues and greens to exquisite reds, yellows, and deep purples. The Rainbow Lorikeet is commonly found all down the east coast of Australia, from Tasmania to Northern Queensland. (You can click on the photo to view a larger image.)
The Rainbow Lorikeet is very colourful as its name suggests. Almost every color of the rainbow is found on the feathers of the rainbow lorikeet. They are not large birds, with a Rainbow Lorikeets height ranging from 25-30 cm (9.8-11.8 in) in size, and with a wingspan of about 17 cm (6.7 in).
These birds have wonderful personalities and were very happy to pose for me.

According to Animal-World... They are very playful birds. They love to play with people, toys, and whatever else they can get their "beaks" onto! Lorikeets like to be very active and love to perform lots of antics, from just showing off in general to swinging upside down on bars, perches and swings.
I hope you enjoyed visiting the Lorikeets with me. To visit more wonderful critters click here to go to the Camera Critters webpage!Friday, September 5, 2008
Here's looking at you...
While we were at the Aquarium I stood in front of an exhibit and this little orange fish swam right up to the glass and stared at me.

He swam away briefly and then came back for a closer look. I was beginning to wonder... who exactly is on display here?
Finally his buddy came along and they swam off together. I know the image is a bit blurry but it's difficult to get the fish to stay still while you're trying to take their picture!

I'm ready for my close-up...
My buddy Ratmammy aka Bob and Blackie's mom (you can find her blog here) has been nagging encouraging me to take macro shots by utilizing the various settings on my camera. I'm a point and shoot sort of person... I didn't even realize that my camera had so many settings! (For the record, I have a Canon PowerShot S2 IS and I love it!) Here's a close-up of my kitty's face. She got annoyed with me pretty quickly so I decided to move on to more willing subjects - flowers!
I call this the "big pink flower". I have no idea what the name of this flower is... if anyone knows, will you please let me know? Thanks!
Pelicans...
Yesterday we went to Long Beach and spent the afternoon at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Afterwards we strolled around the marina and saw lots of Pelicans. These Brown Pelicans are surrounding a boat, hoping for scraps. (You can click on the photos for a larger view.)
The pelicans are famous for their beaks, which they fill with huge gulps of water, strain out the liquid, and eat the remaining fish or squid.
Pelicans are a very distinct group (all 8 species belong to a single genus), and there remains debate about which other birds are their closest relatives. Fossils of pelicans go back 40 million years!

He can take in his beak Enough food for a week.
But I'm darned if I know how the helican."
