Camera Critters #22

The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA has a wonderful exhibit called the Lorikeet Forest. I could have spent the entire day looking at these beautiful birds! This is an excerpt from the Aquarium guidebook... Measuring approximately 10 inches in length, lorikeets exhibit a dazzling color combination, ranging from brilliant blues and greens to exquisite reds, yellows, and deep purples. The Rainbow Lorikeet is commonly found all down the east coast of Australia, from Tasmania to Northern Queensland. (You can click on the photo to view a larger image.)

Here's a Red Lorikeet... the Red Lorikeets were just as friendly as their Rainbow cousins...

The Rainbow Lorikeet is very colourful as its name suggests. Almost every color of the rainbow is found on the feathers of the rainbow lorikeet. They are not large birds, with a Rainbow Lorikeets height ranging from 25-30 cm (9.8-11.8 in) in size, and with a wingspan of about 17 cm (6.7 in).

These birds have wonderful personalities and were very happy to pose for me.

According to Animal-World... They are very playful birds. They love to play with people, toys, and whatever else they can get their "beaks" onto! Lorikeets like to be very active and love to perform lots of antics, from just showing off in general to swinging upside down on bars, perches and swings.

I hope you enjoyed visiting the Lorikeets with me. To visit more wonderful critters click here to go to the Camera Critters webpage!
